Update

I've been kind of fussy about the Florida release. I think it is mainly because of all the money/time it took to print. I didn't print at Berkeley because I ran out of time (a lot of stuff was due the week before spring break), and I thought that the public library in Orlando would have accessible public printing. It doesn't! For a an out-of-state person to even USE the computers at the public library it costs $5.00. I thought Kinkos would be cheaper but it ended up being the same price plus the time it took to walk from the public library to Kinkos...ugh /whine!

Anyway, I'm being fussy... I originally put Chapter two in a newspaper distribution thingy. I thought this would be a fantastic place because curious people read the newspaper, and curious people are most likely to investigate a mysterious envelope. So I checked it and found that it was still there. So I scooped it up and put it in the library; right on the keyboard of an open computer. It seemed busy so I knew that if someone wanted to use that computer they would HAVE to interact with the envelope at least.

I think the library is a good place to release because of all the traffic.

I hope this works out.

The Florida Release

So my first instinct was the release the first four chapters around downtown Orlando. Then I realized that downtown Orlando isn't like Berkeley. Downtown Orlando is clean, neat, and everything is in perfect order; the people that are around are clean, neat, and in perfect order. Those kind of robots don't pick up mysterious envelopes with "Read Me Please" written on them. After I decided to gather up the envelopes, I could only find two of the four released--the one I put on a lamp post blew away (probably), and the one I put in the bathroom at Panera had probably been taken by one of the staff members and thrown away as "trash" or "unwanted solicitation". In case you are the person who decided to play from Panera, thank you for redeeming my faith in people of downtown Orlando.

Then I decided to go to the University of Central Florida campus (because I somehow think that college students are more likely to participate than middle-aged robots that only participate in television and McDonalds). That assumption turned out to be totally off base (at this point, most of you are probably saying "duh"). I put one of the envelopes in the student union dining hall and watched it. About fifteen people walked by, noticed it, but then kept walking! Not a single person even touched it. I didn't understand this at all so I asked Jeremy. He told me that he probably wouldn't investigate the envelope because he would assume that it is some kind of ad or survey (and he isn't interested). I moved the envelope, and left it. To be eventually thrown away. Probably.

Guess how much it cost to print out that shiz at Kinkos! Or what about the stamps?!

When did people become such a disappointment? When did people lose their curiosity?

Return Envelope Theory

For spring break I'm going to Florida.

I decided to run a less-than-half release there; I decided against a full release because I'm enclosing a stamped return envelope. If this proves to be really successful I may run a few more chapters like this.

Stand-by for Chapters 1-4 (written by Floridians! Hopefully!).

So the chapters will now be in their own pages up at the top there (I hope this is obvious).

I'm planning on putting the envelopes in the same locations as the first episode, and eventually during the same time.

Third episode

The next release will be on April 1st (after I set up my exhibition).

Changes to the next release:

1. Character list (right now we have Ophelia, lover man that left Ophelia, Erin, Aurelia from Erin's dream, Erin's fat husband)
2. Time of day
3. Prop List (right now we have the letter that Ophelia received)
4. Multiple places to turn in your narrative.

I would also like to make more of a reward for you guys, but I'm not sure how. Any ideas out there?

On Monday, I will be picking up the inbox to see if anything was returned.

Among exciting news, I have a team working on created a digital version of this game that can be played using smart phones!

So, this might be confusing if you aren't observant.

I went to Yali's and they had moved the inbox!

Now, it is over under the menu taped to where they store all the chairs you can rent out.

I checked it a few hours ago and there is nothing yet...I hope there weren't any pieces lost because of this confusion. Sorry.
